Sunday Snippet: A Perfectly Ordinary Day at WeHaKee!
Sunday already? It is easy to lose track here at WeHaKee, as each day is plump full of activity and exciting events. Below, the Directors describe the beauty of busy camp days and the memories from these days that last a lifetime!
It’s hard to deny that every day at Camp WeHaKee is perfect, but today seemed to be especially spectacular beginning with a group heading out for a morning trip down the pristine Namekagon River. Before they even arrived, three bears (a mama and her two cubs) greeted the canoeists as they travelled to their departure landing in Earl. The rest of the trip was fun-filled with warm, sunny skies, a cooling breeze and gentle flowing river guiding us to Trego, where we pulled out and travelled back to camp.
The afternoon skies remained crystal clear as skiers skied, sailers sailed and windsurfers slid across the lake. And there was plenty of activity enjoyed on land as well with soccer, tennis, pottery, jewelry, horseback riding … filling the campers’ schedules. We concluded the afternoon with our final Mass of the summer with Fr. Pat.
In reality, it was a pretty ordinary day at camp – but that’s the beauty of a WeHaKee experience. Every day is a remarkable and extraordinary experience! And while all this fun activity goes on, the most wonderful thing occuring is the deepening of relationships among new and old friends. In just a few short years these girls will remember this ho-hum day at camp as a special and cherished memory.
So maybe there has been a brief and unseen moment today that helped a girl see something inside of her that is special and remarkable and this affirmation will help her feel a little bit stronger and a little bit more confident. A seed has been planted and will soon bloom, helping this girl embrace all that she is!
Camp is all about planting seeds of hope, confidence and independence in each girl ~ seeds that will sprout in the days, weeks, months, maybe even years ahead. The relationships they grow at camp will help them build stronger and more positive relationships when they return home. We hope this perfectly ordinary day at camp today will soon blossom into an extraordinary moment in each camper’s life! Camp happens!
By now, you know the drill– come back for another post from WeHaKee’s Directors next Sunday!
