FRIDAYS WITH FRANKY! WeHaKee Staff Stewardship!
Hi Everyone! It’s me, Franky, the WeHaKee camp dog! Thank you so much for joining me today. The summer staff at WeHaKee have always been exceptional and that is why so many of our campers return each and every summer. But what is also heartening to us is the impact WeHaKee has on them when they move on into the world!
A recent member of our WeHaKee Staff Team, Karen Gogins, moved out to Tacoma, Washington after departing WeHaKee last summer where she quickly established herself as a remarkable environmental educator at Citizens for a Healthy Bay. She is committed to helping kids and teens embrace environmental stewardship so that they can see the importance of protectiong the land and water in their world.
“I have gotten the opportunity to be involved with
several exciting educational stewardship programs.”
Karen Gogins, former WeHaKee staff member
and current Outreach and Education Coordinator
for Citizens for a Healthy Bay, Tacoma, Washington
As the Outreach and Education Coordinator for Citizens for a Healthy Bay, Karen spends a good deal of her time providing environmental education programs that take students out beyond the classroom. “Young people need to experience actual environmental stewardship work in the field so they can understand the impact we have on our environment.”
All of us at WeHaKee are extremely proud of Karen, but we particularly appreciated her recent Facebook post acknowledging the impact of WeHaKee on her current endavours:
“Ever wonder what exactly I’m doing out in Washington this year?
Check out this article about my work at Citizens for a Healthy Bay
and the importance of environmental education. A special shout-out
to Camp WeHaKee for helping me discover my passion
for connecting kids with their environment
and always supporting my out-of-the-box nature ideas!”
We encourage you to read her article, “Watersheducation”: Protecting the Future of Commencement Bay through Youth Stewardship published on Earth Day, April 22, 2014! Learn more about the impact Karen is having in our world!
With this staff highlight, next week we begin our introductions of our 2014 WeHaKee Staff Team. We are very excited to introduce our new staff, our returning staff and several former campers now joining the ranks of the counselors! Thanks for reading and see you next week!
