FRIDAYS WITH FRANKY! Thankful and Grateful!
Hello everyone – it’s me Franky on this Friday after Thanksgiving. We hope you had a wonderful holiday, perhaps enjoying it with your family and friends. And we also hope you have had some time to reflect on all that you have been provided.
As a shelter dog, I am thankful for the family that chose to bring me into their home without knowing much about me or how I might behave. I began my life in a home with 12 other dogs. Now I am not the most assertive dog – no one would ever mistake me for the alpha male! – so I was easily ignored and pushed off to the side by the other dogs. I had to sneak in, grab my food and run off or I probably wouldn’t get anything to eat. To this day, I still take my food to other parts of the house, something I’m pretty sure aggravates my family at times!
I am also very grateful that my family has introduced me to WeHaKee Camp for Girls. Each summer I get to go to camp and run outside and even get to swim. But the best part is getting to know all the WeHaKee girls and letting them pet me and play with me. They are so much fun and loving, too!
I’ve got a pretty good life with my adoptive family. But I do think of others that may not be as fortunate as I. And each evening before I curl up for the evening, I take a moment to pray that those in need – those with little or no food, those with no place to live, those with no friends or family to support them, those living in shelters or just on the street – that they receive food to eat, shelter to sleep in and support from others.
I encourage each of you to take time away from the hectic consumerism of this day and this season and reflect on what you have been provided. And take a moment to feel a sense of gratitude for all that you have received, even when it doesn’t seem like much. Thank you Lord for gathering me in your grace and love and help me to share that grace and love with all those around me and especially with those in greater need than myself. And I aks those with more than they need to please conider sharing in whatever way they can.
Happy Thanksgiving!
