Fridays with Franky: Making New Friends
Welcome everyone! For those of you who haven’t met me yet, I LOVE to make new friends. As a dog, I am an expert on sniffing out whether someone will be great. In my experience, I have sniffed every camper to ever get off the bus for the first time, and trust me, there has never been an unfriendly one! At first, going to camp by yourself can seem scary. (Like thunderstorms or the vacuum cleaner… Yikes!) However, the moment you step aboard the bus, the Camp WeHeKee staff make it a priority to make you feel welcome and immediately start having fun.
Introducing yourself to girls on the bus is the first step to making new friends. A simple smile or comment such as “I like your t-shirt!” can be the conversation starter for a lifelong friendship. How cool is that?! Get excited because it gets even EASIER to make friends once you arrive at camp. On the first day of camp every girl is placed in a cabin which includes their counselors and other campers. These people will be like your family while you are here! Think of it as a big group of friends or even sisters that get to share many of the same experiences together. As the week goes on, you will have more time to get to know others and what you have in common simply by doing activities together.
Now remember, it’s ok to be nervous, but that won’t last long. Pretty soon you’ll be having SO much fun with your new friends you’ll forget why you were ever nervous in the first place. I know you’ll be begging to come back to camp just to relive that amazing kayaking trip or sing the songs only your Camp WeHaKee friends would know. Even after camp many girls stay close friends through writing each other letters, getting each others phone numbers, or becoming Facebook friends to maintain their friendships until the next year!
I can’t wait for you to come to camp! I can barely stop my tail from wagging. 🙂
Love,
Franky <3
