Fridays with Franky: How to Sniff out a Prepared Camper
Wow! So close to Session 2A I can smell it! It seems to smell like campfires, good food, and friendship. Don’t ask me to tell you what that smells like, I’m a dog, I can smell much more than you!
Something I smell around here a lot is a girl who is ready for camp! We have an awesome “What to Bring to Summer Camp” list, and the girls who read the list with their parents are sure to carry a few scents that my sniffer can sniff in a second:
1. Writing materials—I love the scent of a good handwritten letter. Sometimes people read letters from home to me, and I don’t always catch what they are saying, but I always hear love in their voices. And when campers write back, their family and friends back home can hear the excitement in their voices. Sharing the camp experience by writing home or even journaling will make the memories even sweeter!
2. The right shoes—feet make all the difference! I like to run around camp and be very active, and I’d love it if some girls joined me in the excitement of activities around here. Really good shoes smell sturdy and ready to run. Some shoes even smell like they belong in the water, or near the horses. If a camper has her own riding boots or water shoes, they are perfect to bring to camp to be ready to go for the day!
3. Soap and toothpaste—our shower houses are very nice! A warm shower gives you a fresh start… and every girl has the opportunity for one every day at camp. It helps if you bring a little bag or basket to carry all those nice smelling soaps with you to the shower house near your cabin!
4. Sunscreen— it’s so good to be outside in the summer, who can resist a little sunshine and water! We want to have healthy fun in the sun at camp… so everyone slathers up and sets out on the water, tennis courts, or for a bike ride. The outdoors will be a lot more fun if you are ready!
These are just a few of the things a girl should bring to camp, so be sure to sniff out the packing list here! Clothes, bedding, and other items are really important too! I don’t really like the smell of cell phones, candy, or video games, so you should leave those at home. See you at camp!
