Fridays with Franky: Gettin’ Ready At WeHaKee!
It’s been busy around here as we set up the offices, got ‘connected’ so I could get back to my blogging, settled into our home for the summer and started welcoming our administrative staff. Emily has been busy cleaning up the cabins and homes the past couple of weeks making sure everything is spic & span for the staff and campers. The ‘boys’ arrived last Thursday – 17 wonderful and colorful horses returned to their summer home in the woods! Then Hannah & Carina made their way to WeHaKee on Saturday followed by Katie on Monday afternoon. After over 30 hours of travelling (all the way from the UK!), Mollie arrived Monday evening and began working with the ‘boys’ Tuesday morning! And on Wednesday, Alahna, Hailey and Laura joined us.
After a nice meal together in the Lodge, we gathered together in the staff lounge to discuss our planning and preparations for the beginning of staff training on Tuesday when all of our staff arrive at WeHaKee.
Although the weather has been a somewhat ‘moody & introspective’ (translation – cloudy & a bit rainy from time to time) alot of work has been getting done around here. The horses are being acclimated back to the camp setting – although they really like it here! Art supplies are being sorted and prepared, the boats & paddle boards have been brought out of storage, bulletin boards are popping up and so much more!
There’s a lot to do to get camp ready for the staff, then there’s even more to prepare before the arrival of our first campers in less than three weeks. It’s daunting, but exciting – after planning, recuriting, and preparing for nearly 10 months, summer is finally here!
Have a great weekend everyone!
