Fridays with Franky: The Camp Perspective
Good morning everyone, Franky the camp dog here! This Friday I wanted to remind you of one of the amazing features of summer camp, one that relates to WeHaKee’s top priority…
“At the Heart of WeHaKee is Relationship!”
WeHaKee makes it easy for girls from around the United States and the world to have a shared experience. I know if I hadn’t become a camp dog, I might not be able to say I have friends from Florida to California and Taiwan to Germany! Why do we think it’s so important for girls to come together for camp? Why not just go to local camps?
It only takes a couple hours at camp to see the difference these relationships make. Not only do they now share a wonderful place in the woods together, but they bring their own experiences to camp. The community learns something new from each camper that arrives on the shores of Hunter Lake.
Just like a lot of things in life, we don’t expect WeHaKee to always be perfect and amazing. Don’t get me wrong, it’s my favorite place in the world, and a lot of campers’ favorite place too! But it’s because everyone is happy all the time. While we are learning to canoe, ride horses, and make friends, we are all likely to encounter something difficult or challenging. Similar to if you don’t understand a paddling skill in canoeing, you might not understand someone else’s perspective right away, especially because you might come from very different places!
WeHaKee is a space to learn how to overcome these challenges, to reach out and learn a lot of new things. And those new things might be waterskiing or knitting or archery, but without you even realizing, it might be a new way to think about the world. It might be that you learn how to be a better friend, or something about a different place in the world.
We hope you can join us Summer 2017 and add to the camp perspective!
See you at camp!
