BINGO! It’s our 2017 Staff!
Franky the WeHaKee Camp dog here! The weather keeps getting warmer, and we are officially one month into Spring here in Wisconsin. While the spring showers keep us inside, I’ve come up with a fun game we can play together. Stay tuned… Today I would like to take the time to introduce a group of people who work year-round to make WeHaKee summers great! It’s hard to imagine what their jobs and lives look like sometimes, but they want you to know that they get just as excited as the campers for summer to arrive each year. Here’s a little more information about the BINGO we scored with our full-time team!
Our Directors:
“We are Maggie Braun and Bob Braun and we are in our 13th year as directors of Camp WeHaKee. We absolutely love what each summer brings in our new staff team and the communities we build together with our campers and families!
At camp, Maggie loves to hang out with the campers during valley time, often engaging in friendly games of Doodle Dice. She loves canoeing and sailing as well as being out and about during activity time.
Bob enjoys giving Hunter Lake tours on the pontoon boat, driving the ski boat and getting on a paddle board whenever possible. He also loves accompanying canoe trips down the Namekagon and Flambeau rivers.
We’ve raised our family at camp and feel Camp WeHaKee is our home. We welcome you to our home and think you’ll find your summer experience the most exciting, fulfilling, and meaningful time of your life! We Welcome You to WeHaKee!”
Fun Fact: Maggie teaches college courses about Leadership, Environmental Education, and Recreation Management. Bob is one of our resident music gurus–he helps to lead music at Mass and Campfires. Maybe you will even see him play the trombone!
Rounding out the Leadership Team:
“Hi everyone! My name is Margaret “Thatch” Roesler and I am into my second year as WeHaKee’s Business Administrator! After 3 summers as seasonal staff when I was in college, they couldn’t keep me away so came on board full-time. I live and work out of my home in St. Paul, MN.
Some of my favorite things include swimming, running, podcasts, and reading. I am also a dog person to the core! I’m training for a half-marathon right now, but I can’t wait to get back to camp. I love driving the ski boat, taking photos of all the fun, and being in the water as much as possible.
I’m so happy to be a part of building the community of WeHaKee. Every summer is connected to the ones before it, but they are each a unique experience on their own! See you at camp!”
Fun Fact: Before returning to WeHaKee, Margaret interned at a non-profit publishing company, and then worked as a Logistics Broker. I think that means she loves WeHaKee’s arrival day transportation logistics?
“Hi everyone, and welcome to WeHaKee. I’m Franky WeHaKee, the Camp WeHaKee dog. After Carina, Hannah, Maggie, and Bob Braun rescued me, they brought me into the WeHaKee family and I have felt nothing but love. My favorite things at camp include running through the valley trying to get campers to chase me, sitting in laps during staff meetings, and just plain running free at camp. You’re gonna love it and I can’t wait to meet you. Looking forward to meeting y’all this summer!!”
Fun Fact: I love to ride the golf cart with Maggie around camp, and seeing what everyone is up to!
MORE crucial members of our team:
Mike the property manager oversees camp all-year-round! He braves the winters in Winter, Wisconsin to make sure camp is in ship-shape for the summer. This means clearing leaves in the fall, readying roads and trails in the summer, and much more. This year he has been hard at work with a couple of new projects, including a new structure at the fire circle… What could it be?
Fun Fact: Mike’s whole immediate family has worked for in the past WeHaKee: as a volunteer nurse, waterfront director, and kitchen staff! His daughter was a camper here when she was younger!
Our housekeeping and kitchen staff work a lot during the summer keeping camp clean and neat, and keeping everyone feed. In the spring, the cabins are opened up and cleaned for the new season. It’s a sure sign that summer is close! They are often in the background, but the work that these staff members do is absolutely ESSENTIAL for a great summer. When you are at camp this summer, do me a favor and introduce yourself to the cooks and housekeeping staff and take the time to thank them!
Fun Fact: WeHaKee gets two food truck deliveries every week. This means that our cooks can serve more fresh food without as much food waste!
In the next few weeks, I will let our full Summer 2017 Staff introduce themselves!
Here’s what I think will be fun! On Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram I am going to post a picture of a BINGO card I made with different space requirements about our staff! To fill in a space, write the name of the staff member and any additional information about them that the square asks for. You can print the picture of the BINGO card or just draw a 5×5 box grid. Then take a picture of your completed BINGO card and comment on the Facebook post, Tweet @WeHaKee, or tag us in an Instagram post (@wehakee_campforgirlsofficial).
A couple of ground rules: There are multiple answers to each BINGO, so try not to use a staff member more than once. The last staff members will be introduced May 26th. Get your answers in by June 4th to be entered in a drawing for a camp store coupon!
FYI- if you aren’t on social media, I’ll put the BINGO card below the cut, and you can email it to margaret@wehakeecampforgirls.com
See you at camp!
