Flag Day & Council Fire
Sunday is always the day for our Flag Ceremony, a camp community event where we come together to share respect for all the countries represented at WeHaKee. We form a large circle around our flagpole and announce each flag as it is brought up to be raised. Once the flags are posted, we then invite members from each country to come to the center to sing their respective national anthems. What is particularly nice to see is how many of the other campers join them as they sing in the circle’s center. It reminds us each week of how at Camp WeHaKee we truly are “Worlds Apart, Coming Together”.
Tonight we head out the Chicagami Trail to the fire circle for our Council Fire. The Council Fire has long been a part of the traditions of WeHaKee, but has evolved over the years. Tonight we will share about the history of WeHaKee along with what was the inspiration and vision of the Sisters to create this remarkable place. We will also take time to share about the past directors and how they have influenced the Camp WeHaKee community. And then we will close with the recognition of each of the girl’s participation at WeHaKee, whether they have come for the first time or perhaps are attending for several summers. Its a great way to be thankful and appreciative of those who came before us and have left us this marvelous place where we can all grow, explore and have fun!
